A Chinese delegation from Yancheng visited Međimurje County for economic cooperation
A nine-member delegation from the Chinese city of Yancheng, headed by Zou Yishi, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Yancheng People’s Congress, paid an official visit to Međimurje County. Dmitar Maravić, Director of MARING d.o.o., hosted the city leaders in China’s most densely populated province in Međimurje for the last decade, and they all held a working meeting with Međimurje County representatives, headed by Mayor Matija Posavec.

The Jiangsu province has a population of over 80 million and is home to many of the world’s leading exporters of electronic equipment, chemicals and textiles. Croatia is an important base for Chinese companies exporting to Europe and North America, and according to Dmitry Maravić, who attended the meeting, accompanied by his closest associates Brigitte Maravić, Cheng Hui and David Tomašek, their desire is to achieve good economic cooperation in the form of Chinese-Croatian industrial park, but they are also seriously considering organizing a trade fair in the city of Yancheng.

– In the cooperation of China with the countries of Central and Southeastern Europe, Croatia is highly positioned. The emphasis is again on Međimurje, which is attractive because of the opportunities it offers, not only because of its geographical location, but also because of its unique approach to economic diplomacy and the basic philosophy of how a successful region works.
This is the eleventh delegation from the People’s Republic of China that has visited Međimurje in the past 8 years. Over the past four years, foreign trade, ie exports of goods and services from Međimurje to China, has grown at an annual rate of 54%. Our role is to open doors and connect businessmen, and this visit is a good example since guests from China stay here for a few days, get to know the tourism potential of Međimurje and visit successful domestic companies – said Mayor Matija Posavec, while Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Standing Committee. Yancheng Zou Yishi thanked the hosts for their warm welcome and said that the visit laid the foundations for a quality future cooperation.
The first step to building relationships between friends’ cities
An official relationship between the cities of friends is planned in the near future between the city of Čakovec and the city of Yancheng. The first step towards this was a Letter of Intent to Establish Relations between Friends’ Towns, signed by the Deputy Mayor of the City of Cakovec, Zoran Vidović, with Liu Guozhong, Senior Advisor to the Yancheng Foreign Office. an open and friendly city. We already have seven friends cities, and I am delighted that we have launched a process that will make Chinese Yancheng one of them. I believe that in this way we will connect not only Međimurje and the town of Čakovec, but also the entire Republic of Croatia with the People’s Republic of China, not only in cultural and sports terms, but also in economic terms – said Deputy Mayor of Čakovec Zoran Vidović.
